What is Streaming Video?

Streaming media allows you to watch a file as it downloads, as opposed to waiting for an entire audio or video file to download to your computer before you can use it. The streaming format that Hoey & Farina Online currently supports is Windows Media.

Buffering & Internet Congestion

When you first launch your Windows Media Player, a message will appear to tell you the video clip is buffering. This means the Windows Media Player is waiting to detect the speed at which the clip is being sent to your computer so that the video can play smoothly.

Internet congestion may sometimes stop or slow down the video on the Windows Media Player screen. This can be for multiple reasons, so be patient and the clip will start playing again. If the message continues, try coming back to the clip in a couple of minutes.

You can also choose to watch the video at different connection speed (for example, choose 28K connection instead of 56K connection). While the image resolution will diminish at slower connection speeds, the audio stream will stream smoothly and without interruption.

Because we use some of the more recent media technologies, most of the time problems can be overcome if you update your Windows Media Player. You should get a message when you launch the video asking you to update it if necessary. If not. click on the Windows Media icon to the left at the top of page.
